Peaceful demonstration planned for Pat Bay Highway - Monday, August 2, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

 

Highway 17 from Island View Road to McTavish Road will be closed from 8:50 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. on the morning of Monday, August 2, 2021.

 

A peaceful demonstration is planned in solidarity with Penelakut Tribes as a result of the recent discoveries at the site of Kuper Island Residential School.

 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and look for alternate routes. Route detours will be marked and traffic control dispersed along routes. Please expect delays during this timeframe and in the Central Saanich area.

 

“We ask the public to please exercise patience, drive safely and plan travel accordingly,” said Chief Constable of the Central Saanich Police Service, Ian Lawson.

 

Central Saanich Police along with the RCMP will be monitoring for public safety. The Ministry of Transportation is providing traffic control assistance.
