Qualifications - Recruit Constable

Basic Qualifications for a Recruit Constable:

  • Minimum age of 19 years
  • No Criminal Record for which a pardon has not been granted
  • Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR level C
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Completion of POPAT in a time of less than 4 minutes and 15 seconds
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High School graduate or equivalent (Official stamped transcript in a sealed envelope from your High School, College or University must be forwarded to the Central Saanich Police Service Attn: Recruiting)
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with good driving history
  •  Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated fit and healthy lifestyle
  • Ability to undergo a significant background investigation involving all areas of your personal and professional life
  • Shared values regarding Inclusivity and Diversity
  • Hearing Standards:
    • Must have a hearing loss of no greater than 30 decibels in both ears in the 500-3000 Hz range
  • Vision Standards:
    • Must have the ability to see out of both eyes, and have unaided vision of no less than 20/40 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye
    • Vision should be correctable with an approved vision aid to a minimum of 20/20 with both eyes open  - with no one eye poorer than 20/30
    • Colour vision must pass the Ishihara test or the Farnsworth D-15 test
    • Must be at least 150 degrees continuous along the horizontal meridian and 20 degrees continuous above and below fixation with both eyes open and examined together
    • Applicants who have had laser eye surgery must wait one month post-surgery for an eye examination.  The surgeon must also complete a CSPS form stating there are no adverse conditions
