Auxiliary Jail Guards form an important role in our operations and are responsible for the security and wellbeing of prisoners lodged into cells at Central Saanich Police Service.
**Please note that as an auxiliary position hours are dependent on the needs of the Service and on a call-out basis**
Qualifications:
- Must be 19 years of age or older
- Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- No criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted
- Ability to respond, and attend CSPS, at short notice
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to pass security screening
Prior experience of cell block operations is an asset, but training will be provided.
Duties will include:
- Monitoring of prisoners, physically and via CCTV camera, to ensure their security and wellbeing
- Accurate and detailed completion of prisoner logs
- Provision of primary care items such as meals and blankets
- Maintain communication, via radio, with the Watch Commander apprising them of any issues arising
- Maintain and monitor cell block supplies
- Search and clear cells after use
- Other duties may be assigned as required
Note: Auxiliary Jail Guards do not have physical contact with prisoners.
Wages:
- $29.81/hr + 11% in lieu of benefits
- Call-outs receive a minimum of 4 hours compensation
