FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On May 21, 2026, at approximately 11:05 a.m., the Central Saanich Police Service (CSPS) received a report of a suspicious motorcycle travelling northbound on the Patricia Bay Highway. The caller provided the licence plate for a 1980s Honda Goldwing, which was determined to be unattached to a registered vehicle and not insured.
An officer located the motorcycle and attempted a traffic stop. The rider, who had a passenger, failed to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, operating in a dangerous manner through the community. Due to the risk posed to the public, officers monitored the situation while maintaining a focus on safety.
The manner in which the motorcycle was operated created a significant risk to the public, including other road users and pedestrians in the area. The high speed, refusal to stop for police, and attempts to evade through constrained spaces increased the likelihood of a serious collision. The actions of the rider also placed the passenger at considerable risk of injury, particularly given the limited protection associated with motorcycles.
The motorcycle was later located in the 6800 block of East Saanich Road. The rider attempted to evade police by leaving the roadway and travelling between concrete barriers separating the Keating Cross Road on-ramp from the highway. The space narrowed, causing the motorcycle to become stuck.
With the assistance of the Sidney RCMP, a 24-year-old male from Esquimalt was arrested. He is facing recommended charges of Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance. He was later released from custody with a future court date in Victoria. Several violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act were also issued.
As is standard in British Columbia, police are recommending charges to Crown Counsel, which will independently review the evidence and determine whether charges will be approved.
The 31-year-old female passenger was also detained and subsequently released without charge. Neither the rider nor the passenger sustained injuries.
CSPS thanks its officers and the Sidney RCMP for their coordinated response, which helped bring this incident to a safe conclusion while minimizing risk to the public.
